Designated Watchable Wildlife Site: Seney National Wildlife Refuge (25 miles Northeast) is home to more than 200 kinds of birds, 45 mammals, and 26 fish including bald eagles, loons, trumpeter swans, ospreys, sandhill cranes, white-tailed deer, black bears, bobcats, river otters, moose, wolves, and more.
Paddling: Canoe or kayak one of the Michigan?s longest, undeveloped rivers. This river starts at Manistique Lake and flows southwesterly more than 70 miles, emptying into Lake Michigan at the city of Manistique Suitable for paddlers of all skill levels, this twisty, sandy bottom natural river has depths ranging between 2 to 10 feet. Outfitters in Germfask, MI offer rental equipment for the non-boat owner and shuttle services for the boat owner.
