Avery Lake State Forest Campground

Sites available on a first-come, first-serve basis. No reservations. 16 sites for tent and small trailer use, 10 of which will accommodate 40-ft vehicle/trailer. 3 of the sites are walk-in sites for tents only. Located on secluded Avery Lake with boat launch and fishing opportunities. Rustic campground includes vault toilets and potable water from well hand pump.

Fishing: Avery Lake (on site); Crooked Lake (7 miles NE); Thunder Bay River (7 miles NE): Perch, Bass, Pike, Bluegill, Walleye.
Hiking: Buttles Road (10 miles West): 7 miles of rolling terrain. Hike, mountain bike.
High Country (16 miles West): Over 80 miles of varied terrain connecting 9 State Forest campgrounds winding through scenic back country.
Designated Watchable Wildlife Site: Pigeon River country Elk Range is home to the largest free roaming elk herd east of the Mississippi River. Several elk viewing sites have been established although the elk can be seen throughout the area (11 miles NW).
Off-Road Vehicle Trails/Routes: Hunt Creek Trail (3 miles South): 33 miles of cycle/ATV trail.
Big Bear Trail and Connector (10 miles West): 20 miles of cycle/ATV trail.
Atlanta Trail (12 miles North): 82 miles of cycle/ATV trail. Connects to Brush Creek.
Brush Creek Route (12 miles North): 35 miles of full-sized vehicle ORV route.
