Newaygo State Park

Newaygo State Park is a 99-site rustic campground and day use area sitting atop 20-foot embankments overlooking the Hardy Dam Pond, a six-mile flooding of the Muskegon River. The campground noted for its large, private sites and scenic beauty with a 20-30 foot forested buffer between sites.

Area Information: Anglers interested in the Great Lakes species can fish for trout and salmon downstream in the popular Croton Dam area, just 15 minutes south of the park. The nearby White Pine Trail State Park provides hiking and biking opportunities. With fall comes the beautiful color season, enhanced by spectacular views overlooking the Muskegon River.


Facilities at Newaygo State Park

Boating Access Site/Launch - Access for boating and fishing.: The parks protected harbor and easy access to the Hardy Dam Pond attract many recreational boaters, water skiers and anglers each year. Water levels on the reservoir can be maintained at a high level in contrast to the declining water levels of the Great Lakes. The access site parking lot holds about 65 vehicle/ trailer combinations and alleviates traffic congestion on the park roads.
Picnic Area - Picnic tables and fire pits/grills: The park has two playground areas and a small beach for children and adults who wish to cool off from the summer heat.
Playground - These play areas offer a variety of playground equipment for children.: Two playground areas are provided.

Fishing: The primary game fish are walleye, largemouth and smallmouth bass. A wide variety of panfish are also available in the Muskegon River.
