This past month, our parent company launched: www.FunnyPaws.com, as a unique “petworking” portal for animal lovers and pet lovers to share laughs, stories, blog posts, pictures and videos. The social networking site is proving to be a very successful.
The site is setup similar to a “facebook” website where members can join groups, post events, post blogs, pictures and videos, while at the same time – they can view and “like” friend’s photos and content or even publicly posted content.
We recently joined the website (as MichiganBusiness.us) and encourage our members to join also – please let us know what you think.
The question that we have for our followers is: Would MichiganBusiness.us better serve you if it was a more “business networking” website? Each member would still have their own “business advertisement” page – but they would also be able to create groups, upload images, create blogs etc..
What do you think? Would it be more useful? Please respond @michiganbd or on our facebook page:
After two straight months of fabulously “warmer than usual” weather in Michigan, our streak has ended. The ice and sleet coming down today and into early tomorrow is a cause for concern and a reason to stay off the roads.
Flights are cancelled throughout the state – putting a damper on holiday travel. Goliath, as the storm is called is running it’s course.
Be safe, stay warm and stay off the roads for the rest of the day.
The lighthouses are all listed on the National Register of Historic Places and are being sold through the U.S. General Services Administration.
Advancements in technology mean the Coast Guard no longer needs the lighthouses for navigation.
The Spectacle Reef Light in the Straits of Mackinac – Current bid: $10,000.
Only the lighthouse – not the property it sits on – is included in the sale. The 86-foot-tall gray conical light tower on a concrete crib sits 11 miles off the eastern end of Bois Blanc Island on the waters of Lake Huron.
The Ile aux Galets Light on Skillagalee Island on Lake Michigan – Current bid: $5000.
This lighthouse was built in 1888 on a remote islet in northeast Lake Michigan, seven miles northeast of Cross Village in Emmet County. The octagonal brick and stone hourglass tower is 58 feet high.
The Gravelly Shoal Light on Lake Huron in Au Gres – Current bid: $5000.
It’s located on Saginaw Bay, approximately 5 miles offshore from Aux Gres Township in Arenac County. The art deco style lighthouse was constructed in 1939 to mark the shoals around Big Charity Island. The 65-foot tower is constructed of reinforced concrete and steel with white markings.
Sounds like a steal to me? Whoever buys them will be required to follow established standards for the treatment of historic properties.
Coincidentally coinciding with the launch of MichiganBusiness.us new Campground and Trail website, Michigan State officials are partnering with Michigan’s communities to create the Iron Belle trail, a 1,200-mile pathway starting in Detroit and ending way up in the western Upper Peninsula.
The Iron Belle trail – first introduced by Gov. Rick Snyder in 2012 – actually comprises of two trails. It includes a 774 mile biking trail and a 1,200 mile hiking trail. It will start at Belle Isle Park in Detroit and end in Ironwood.
The Department of Natural Resources created a route based on existing trails in Michigan. About 65 percent of each trail is already in place.
The state’s resource agency and the Department of Transportation are helping communities get the funds and make plans to fill in the gaps.

WE PETITION THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION TO:
Ban all synthetic drugs including spice, k2 and related brands currently sold legally in gas stations and head shops.
Synthetic cannabis/marijuana is a growing and rampant problem in this country. In Michigan during the month of May:
- a man beat his father to death and put his brother and mother in critical condition while trying to get more money for synthetic cannabis.
- A grandmother shot her grandson due to his violent behavior that was a byproduct of synthetic cannabis intoxication.
- An 18 year old boy overdosed and was found dead on a beach less than a quarter mile from his home after smoking synthetic cannabis.
The frequencies of problems caused by a multitude of synthetic cannabis products have been increasing rapidly. Drug designers change the molecular structure of it each time a law is passed to ban the previous chemical composition. We must move to outlaw and ban all forms of synthetic cannabis.
Find out more information about the dangers of K2, spice and other synthetic drugs at www.Ban-K2.com

The 2012 Theme for International Women’s Day is: “Empower Women – End Hunger and Poverty”
In adopting its resolution on the observance of Women’s Day, the General Assembly cited two reasons: to recognize the fact that securing peace and social progress and the full enjoyment of human rights and fundamental freedoms require the active participation, equality and development of women; and to acknowledge the contribution of women to the strengthening of international peace and security.
International Women’s Day events are held worldwide today. Various women, including political, community, and business leaders, as well as leading educators, inventors, entrepreneurs, and television personalities, are usually invited to speak at various events on the day. Such events may include seminars, conferences, luncheons, dinners or breakfasts. The messages given at these events often focus on various themes such as innovation, the portrayal of women in the media, or the importance of education and career opportunities.
- In Southfield Michigan – Join Michigan Association for Female Entrepreneurs along with various partner organizations across the state as they celebrate the economic, political and social achievements of women in Michigan and around the world.
Even if you cannot attend a major event today to celebrate International Women’s Day- please take a moment to reflect on the accomplishments of women in Michigan and elsewhere.
