Need your opinion- Would serve you better as a Business Networking Portal?

This past month, our parent company launched:, as a unique “petworking” portal for animal lovers and pet lovers to share laughs, stories, blog posts, pictures and videos.  The social networking site  is proving to be a very successful.

The site is setup similar to a “facebook” website where members can join groups, post events, post blogs, pictures and videos, while at the same time – they can view and “like” friend’s photos and content or even publicly posted content.

We recently joined the website (as and encourage our members to join also – please let us know what you think.

The question that we have for our followers is:  Would better serve you if it was a more “business networking” website?  Each member would still have their own “business advertisement” page – but they would also be able to create groups, upload images, create blogs etc..

What do you think?  Would it be more useful?  Please respond @michiganbd or on our facebook page:

Michigan Road Trips – Things to Enjoy in the Winter Months

Everyone knows that Michigan is the premier destination in the summer months.  The absolutely stunning lakes and beaches, Mackinaw Island and Traverse City – the gorgeous dunes and buzz of Grand Rapids.  But what about the winter months?

Yes – skiing at Boyne and Crystal Mountain  – snow shoeing along some of the most beautiful trails in the country!

Did someone say Wine and Beer?  Michigan is home to some of the best micro-breweries in the world, and not only in Grand Rapids.   Just north of Detroit is the acclaimed Griffin Claw Brewery and a little known gem – Ascension Brewery in Novi.

Get more ideas on Michigan road trips.  It’s well worth the visit.

Our favorite is MICHIGAN ROAD TRIPS by a little known author that must know ALOT about Michigan.

Wicked Weather today in Michigan

After two straight months of fabulously “warmer than usual” weather in Michigan, our streak has ended.  The ice and sleet coming down today and into early tomorrow is a cause for concern and a reason to stay off the roads.

Flights are cancelled throughout the state – putting a damper on holiday travel.  Goliath, as the storm is called is running it’s course.

Be safe, stay warm and stay off the roads for the rest of the day.

Michigan Ranked in Top 10 up and coming Wine Countries!

Michigan wine country is  largely undeveloped say’s CNN, comprising just 100 or so small- to medium-sized wineries in Michigan and just less than 3,000 acres of wine-producing vineyards.

“Yet the new wines coming out of this undervalued region — particularly those from the Leelanau and Old Mission Peninsulas — are fantastic.”

We at would have to agree – great Michigan wines, undeveloped vineyards and lots of potential for expansion.

Standouts include semi-dry German and Alsatian varietals like riesling (Michigan’s most widely planted grape).

Other dry white wines like sauvignon blanc,  pinot grigio and chardonnay are consistently bright and crisp across Michigan, and very good value.

Chateau Grand Traverse or Black Star Farms – Old Mission are great examples of the wonderful wineries across Michigan.  Be sure to take a fall winery tour and tasting this autumn!

Free Marketing for Michigan Businesses – What’s the catch?

To date, over 50,000 small businesses in Michigan have taken advantage of the free marketing opportunities on the website.  With 10’s of thousands of visitors per day and a easy-to-use mobilized site, we often get asked the question – What’s the Catch?

To answer that question, we have to go back over a decade and a half in time.  Nicayla Enterprises developed the Michigan Business Directory in 2000 to serve as a “perk” to the company’s clients.  Only Nicayla’s clients were listed and were benefitted by the directory.

Over the years, the directory was opened up to all businesses for free listings because the more listings, the more clients benefitted.

Today – the Michigan Business Directory has expanded to list every single school in the state, over 50,000 travel POI’s and destinations in Michigan, Michigan county demographics and a slew of other facts, places, coupons and interesting Michigan information.

The owner of the Michigan Business Directory, Mary Joyce, maintains the directory as passion, constantly adding new features.

If you enjoy the directory or even obtain one extra client from our hard work, we really appreciate donations, as it helps to pay for the hosting and new features.

That’s the catch … there is no catch!

Michigan Disc Golf Courses spell FUN!

Disc golf in one form or another has been with us since the beginning of time.

The early cavemen in their search for weapons to extend their ability to slay food probably found rocks before clubs. (If they could kill something from a safe distance it would be much safer than a club or a sharp stick.)

Disc Golf has evolved into a relatively inexpensive, super fun recreational medium and courses are popping up all over Michigan.  Please visit our course directory listing courses by county.

The benefits of disc golf are numerous.

  • For parks, the sport provides quality recreational opportunities and attract new users the park system.
  • For players, the sport can be played at any age, provides a healthy outdoor activity and is inexpensive.
  • The learning curve is relatively short to get started
  • Equipment can be as inexpensive as a 3-pack disc golf set from Amazon.
